- Exterior deck screws (1-5/8 inch, coated)
- Drill/driver
- Replacement picket (if cracked)
- Hammer and pry bar
- Level
Step by step
- Step 1
Pull out loose or rusted nails with a pry bar.
- Step 2
If the picket is split or rotted, cut a replacement to the same length and shape.
- Step 3
Line up the picket with its neighbors using a level or a spacer block.
- Step 4
Drive two exterior screws into each rail (top and bottom).
- Step 5
Stain or seal new wood to match the fence.
