Tools & materials
- Screwdriver or drill
- Stud finder
- Toggle or self-drilling drywall anchors rated 25+ lb
- Spackle and putty knife
- Small level
Step by step
- Step 1
Loosen the set screw on the bottom of each post and lift the bar off its mounting brackets.
- Step 2
Unscrew the brackets and pull out the old anchors. Fill any torn holes with spackle if you'll be shifting position.
- Step 3
Check for a stud. If one lines up with a bracket, screw straight into it.
- Step 4
Where there's no stud, install a toggle or heavy-duty self-drilling anchor rated for at least 25 pounds.
- Step 5
Level the bar, screw the brackets back on firmly, then slide the posts on and tighten the set screws.
When to stop and call ProFix
If you see any of these, stop and call us:
- The wall behind is tile and you're not comfortable drilling it
- The drywall is soft or crumbling (possible moisture)
- The bar is part of a grab-bar safety setup (grab bars must hit studs or use rated anchors)
