How to Replace Drawer Slides

  • Time: 45–60 min
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Steps: 6

Drawer slides wear out and bind. Measure the drawer depth and slide type and replacements go in with basic tools.

Tools & materials

  • Matching drawer slides (same length and mount type)
  • Tape measure
  • Screwdriver or drill
  • Level
  • Pencil

Step by step

  1. Step 1

Pull the drawer out fully and press the release levers to remove it.

  2. Step 2

Measure the old slide length and check whether it's side-mount, center-mount or undermount.

  3. Step 3

Unscrew the old slides from the drawer and the cabinet.

  4. Step 4

Install the cabinet members first, level and at the same height on both sides.

  5. Step 5

Attach the drawer members, then slide the drawer in and test.

  6. Step 6

Use the slotted holes to fine-tune before driving the final screws.

  • The drawer box is falling apart
