How to Tighten a Wobbly Faucet Base

  • Time: 20–30 min
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Steps: 5

A loose faucet strains its supply lines and can cause leaks. The fix is the mounting nut underneath.

Tools & materials

  • Basin wrench or faucet installation tool
  • Flashlight
  • Towel
  • Safety glasses

Step by step

  1. Step 1

Clear the cabinet and lie on your back with a flashlight to find the mounting nut(s) on the faucet shank.

  2. Step 2

Have a helper hold the faucet straight from above.

  3. Step 3

Tighten the nut with a basin wrench (or the plastic tool from the faucet maker) until the faucet stops moving.

  4. Step 4

    Don't overtighten plastic nuts.

  5. Step 5

Check the supply line connections while you're under there for drips.
