- Drill and bits
- Toggle bolts or heavy-duty anchors rated for the load

- Spackle and putty knife
Step by step
- Step 1
Unload the shelf and remove it and the brackets from the wall.
- Step 2
Pull out the failed anchors and patch torn holes with spackle.
- Step 3
Use a stud finder to locate studs. Screw at least one bracket into a stud if possible.
- Step 4
Where there's no stud, use toggle bolts or metal anchors rated for at least twice the expected weight.
- Step 5
Level the brackets, mount them, then reattach the shelf and load it gradually.
