Tools & materials
- New showerhead
- Adjustable wrench or pliers
- Thread seal tape (PTFE)
- Rag
- Old toothbrush
Step by step
- Step 1
Wrap a rag around the old showerhead's connector nut to protect the finish and unscrew it counterclockwise.
- Step 2
Hold the shower arm steady with your other hand so you don't twist it inside the wall.
- Step 3
Clean old tape and mineral buildup off the arm threads with a toothbrush.
- Step 4
Wrap new thread tape clockwise 3–4 times around the threads.
- Step 5
Hand-thread the new showerhead on, then snug it a quarter turn with the wrench and rag.
- Step 6
Turn on the water and check for drips at the connection. Tighten slightly if needed.
