Step by step
- Step 1
Turn off the supply valve, flush and sponge out the remaining water in the tank.
- Step 2
Place a towel down, then unscrew the supply line from the bottom of the tank.
- Step 3
Unscrew the locknut under the tank and lift out the old fill valve.
- Step 4
Set the new valve's height to the tank (the critical line should sit 1 inch above the overflow tube), insert it and hand-tighten the locknut plus a quarter turn.
- Step 5
Clip the refill tube to the overflow tube and replace the flapper while the tank is empty.
- Step 6
Reconnect the supply line, turn the water on and adjust the float so water stops about 1 inch below the overflow.
